Grant died by suicide after the arrest of her cocaine-dealing partner in March 1984. She was inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame in 1999. Colleen Applegate was hailing from a birth on in Bellflower, California. In 1963, her family moved to Farmington, Minnesota, when her father, Philip Applegate, took a managerial position with the Central Telephone Company of Minnesota. Colleen served as a cheerleader at her school, Farmington High School. After graduating in 1981, she worked locally as a cashier and then as a repair clerk with the phone company.
